Russia plans to build a new sea port in the White Sea, in Karelia, by 2014, to get a wider access to the Arctic, ITAR-TASS news agency reports.

The port will be located not far from Belomorsk station on the Saint Petersburg-Murmansk railway route, and is expected to have capacity for up to 9 million tons of cargo per year. When commissioned, the port will boost transit operations at the ports of north-western Russia.
