Railway freight in Russia grows 11% in Jan-Aug – RZD

Freight moved by rail in Russia increased 11% year-on-year to 793 million tonnes in January-August, OJSC Russian Railways (RZD) (RTS: RZHD) said, citing preliminary figures.

Freight turnover was also up 11% year-on-year - to 1.321 trillion paid tonne/kilometers.

Freight haulage grew 11.3% year-on-year in January-July 2010.

Freight was up 5.3% year-on-year at 105 million tonnes in August alone. Freight turnover grew 1% in August to 172 billion tonne-km.

Russian rails carried 11% more oil and oil products in August, 10% more ferrous metals, 12% more ferrous metal scrap, 10.6% more chemical and mineral fertilizers, 11.5% more cement, 9.7% more timber, 11.3% more construction cargo, 10.8% more chemicals and soda, and 6.8% more grain and milled products.
