AvtoVAZ to install GLONASS on its cars

In early 2011, Russia’s largest carmaker AvtoVAZ is expected to start producing its Lada Kalina and Lada Priora models equipped with the GLONASS-GPS navigation system.

It is planned to make several thousand of such cars, according to the company’s Vice-President Yevgeny Shmelev, who said GLONASS tracking devices are currently installed only in the vehicles belonging to emergency services and transport companies.

AvtoVAZ has become the world’s first carmaker to utilize the binary navigation system based on both GLONASS and GPS.
