Ministry of Transport of Russia proposes to provide up to RUR 45 billion before 2014 to ensure transport safety, Igor Levitin, head of the Ministry said in Nalchik on Monday.

The program includes installation of video security in all long-distance buses. "It is a video camera in buses with alarm buttons, so that each bus station can see what takes place in the bus," he said.

The head of Mintrans also called to withdraw intercity bus transport “from the shadow”. There are many buses, which, to our opinion, should not be on roads. It affects diligent carriers," the minister said as quoted by "Transport Today".

Levitin also said that people sould understand that "gray" carriers are not under any control. "One should know what kind of bus he is taking, especially when travelling with children," he warned.

In mid-July this year, Ministry of Transport of Russia sent the draft "Complex Program for Public Safety in Transport” to the Government, which includes sub-programs by type of transport, including metro and passenger ground transport, as well as general activities such as improving current legislation, creating a training system, transport security professional education and certification, information management system for public safety in transport, development of new technical means to ensure transport infrastructure security from terrorist attacks and counter-terrorism measures, protection from the threats of natural and man-created disasters and protecting population from threats of unlawful interference in public transport, said the Transport Ministry.

This year, about RUR 7.8 billion is to be spent to equip the most vulnerable points of transport infrastructure and vehicles with special technical equipment and devices.
