Russia: cargo transportation volume fell by 20.4% in 2009

According to preliminary data, the volume of freight transportation in the RF transport sector amounted to 9.5 billion tons, 20.4% less comparing with the volume carried in 2008, said Sergey Ivanov, the RF Vice Prime Minister, at the meeting of the board of the RF Transport Ministry on Wednesday.

Mr Ivanov said that the throughput of the transport sector in 2009 was 2,227 billion tonne-kilometres, 11.5% down year-on-year.

Commercial transportation amounted to 3,501.3 million tons (-17.7% year-on-year).
