State must finance transport safety

Sergey Shishkaryov, Chairman of the Committee for Transport at the State Duma, considers that the state must finance measures to provide transport safety in Russia.

“The law on transport safety must be changed,” he said.

“Unfortunately, according to the law, the subjects of transport infrastructure should provide transport safety, but there hardly is any classification in the subjects. It turns out that railway stations, bus-stops, and thousand-kilometre long lines are transport infrastructure subjects,” he stated.

In his words, the law does not envisage transport safety financing by the state, reports Itar-Tass . The state entrusted the subjects with all the measures. RZD can assign significant means for transport safety. Meanwhile, what is the basis for other subjects of transport safety, including private transporters, to provide transport safety?” he said.

“This is why the law must be revised,” summed up Mr Shishkaryov.
