Russia and Germany plan to develop the system of container transportation by railway from Russian Far East to Hamburg, said Ruediger Grube, Chairman of the Board of Deutsche Bahn AG.

“The travel time of a container train is supposed to be two weeks. Of that, 7 days the train is supposed to run via the Transsiberian corridor,” noted he.

The targets of “Transsib in 7 days” project envisage a number of complex measures to be taken in Russia. Vladimir Yakunin, RZD President, promises to improve the technology of transportations, particularly transit ones, and the quality of services for consignors.
RZD expects that the planned volume of cargo from Far Eastern ports to the western border of the RF will be transported in 2012. “To do it, we will put into operation new rolling stock, enlarge the infrastructure capacity, implement advanced IT, and adapt railway machinery and technologies for them to meet international standards,” said Mr Yakunin.
