RZD and Bombardier to sign 15-year contract for ÝÏ10 electric locomotives maintenance

Russian Railways JSC (RZD) and Bombardier plan to conclude a contract to maintain ÝÏ10 passenger electric locomotives, said David Kirzhner, Deputy Head of RZD’s Technical Policy Department, yesterday in Moscow.

“The contract envisages that the equipment set in the locomotives will be maintained during 15 year period,” he said.

In the words of Mr Kirzhner, the contract is being adjusted now, reports Interfax. “I hope, it will be adjusted in two months,” noted he. Mr Kirzhner specified that the contract touches upon approximately 30% of the equipment set in ÝÏ10, including nonsynchronous engines, converters, and insulating systems. RZD exploits 12 such locomotives.

According to the latest figures, the Russian Railways network carried 80.7 million passengers in November 2011, an increase of 4.7% over the same month last year. Suburban passengers totalled 72 million, up 5.5%, while long-distance passenger numbers fell by 1.8% to 8.7 million. Passenger turnover in November 2011 amounted to 10.1 billion passenger-kilometres, up 0.4% over the same month last year.
