Russia not to consider Nabucco-South Stream merger

15.03.2010 (15:05)

Russia is not considering a merger of the Nabucco and South Stream gas pipelines, says Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko in a comment on a proposal by the CEO of the Italian oil and gas company Eni Paolo Scaroni.

Last week Signor Scaroni suggested merging part of the two pipelines’ routes to reduce operational costs and boost their efficiency. According to a RIA-Novosti report, Italia’s Eni is a Russian Gazprom’s partner in the South Stream project. Nabucco is promoted by the United Sates and some European allies of Washington to supply Central Asian gas to Europe in circumvention of Russia.
