Rosneft secures license to develop offshore shelf

The Russian government has granted a license to Rosneft for the exploration and production of hydrocarbons on Sakhalin's continental shelf without a tender. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin signed a corresponding decree yesterday.

Neither Rosneft, nor the Russian agency for subsoil resources (Rosnedra) could provide any details on the territory granted under the license.

Rosneft hopes to secure licenses for 6 oil and gas deposits on the continental shelf in 2010 and a total of 25 by 2020.
