Asia-Med ocean rates fall, but Asia-Europe still rising

The latest data from the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI) has revealed that rates from Shanghai to the Mediterranean fell last week

SCFI figures reveal that all-in rates, which include surcharges but not terminal handling fees, on Asia to Mediterranean services dropped from US$2,067 per teu to $2,035 per teu last week.

Meanwhile, rates on services from Asia to Europe climbed by $14 to reach $2,164 per teu at the end of last week, following a $68 increase the previous week.

Of the other main trades coming out Shanghai, rates on services to the US west coast increased by $3 per feu to reach $2,142 and rates on east coast services dropped by $24 to reach $3,150 per feu.

Services to Australia and New Zealand dropped $35 to reach $1,545 per teu and services to the Arabian Gulf and Red Sea slid $7 to $713 per teu.

The SCFI’s index for all services out of Shanghai dropped 4.68 points to reach 1,402.87.
