Gazprom plans to increase gas exports to Asia–Pacific region

Russia’s Gazprom intends to eventually increase natural gas exports to the Asia–Pacific region to a level comparable with gas exports to Europe, Gazprom’s public relations department said following a meeting chaired by Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller on Wednesday.The Asia–Pacific region is an important destination for the diversification of Gazrom’s gas exports, Gazprom said. Gas will be supplied to the region from West Siberia and in the future from the constituent republic of Yakutia, Miller was quoted as saying.
Gazprom is building gas pipelines and liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities in Russia’s Far East with the intention for exports to the Asia–Pacific region via pipelines and by sea, the company said. Specifically, it plans to start construction of the Yakutia–Khabarovsk–Vladivostok gas pipeline in 2012 after completing the Sakhalin–Khabarovsk–Vladivostok pipeline, it said.
In 2009, Gazprom started LNG supplies to South Korea and Japan from its Sakhalin-2 oil and gas project in Russia’s Far East, according to earlier reports. Gazprom expects to start gas supplies to China in 2014–2015, it said earlier.
