Medvedev calls for joint efforts on road safety

President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev has suggested combining international efforts to boost road safety, in the same way as it is being done to help the global economy to recover from the financial downturn.

Addressing the First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Moscow, Mr. Medvedev noted that each day over 3,500 people die in road accidents all over the world-this is about 1 million victims every year, every fifth of them is a child. The First Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety has brought together government officials and public figures from 148 countries.
