Vladimir Putin has called the commissioning of a gas pipeline between Russia and South Ossetia to be a crucial economic development.
Answering Vladimir Putin’s questions, Mr Alexei Miller, CEO of Gazprom, told that the volume of deliveries will be two hundred and fifty million cubic meters annually, which is more than enough to meet current gas demands in South Ossetia.
“Today we signed a 20-year agreement with our South Ossetian colleagues for gas cooperation. It calls for implementing a large-scale programme for connecting consumers to the gas supply network, which is why we will begin work today,” said Alexei Miller explaining the Gazprom’s palns to start supplying gas to the low-pressure distribution networks.
Vladimir Putin highly appreciated the work of the construction companies, which had built a unique system îver extremely difficult mountain terrain - the pipeline had been built at an altitude of 3,150 metres.
“It could be the only of its kind in the gas industry. Building the pipeline through difficult mountain terrain, which necessitated the construction of many tunnels, was very difficult. But you have completed the project on time. Thank you very much,” said Prime Minister.
