LDz to Carry 55 Mln Tons of Cargos in 2008

The Latvian railway company, Latvijas Dzelzcels (LDz), expects to carry a total of 55mn tons of cargos in 2008, which would be 5.5% more than in 2007.

Mr Ugis Magonis, CEO of LDz, said Latvia needs to develop its ports to increase the volume of rail cargos. LDz plans to purchase around 1,000 semi-carriage freight cars in the near future. At present, the company has only 80% of the necessary number of freight cars, Mr Magonis said, Logistics Finland reports.
