LDz to Carry 55 Mln Tons of Cargos in 2008

The Latvian railway company, Latvijas Dzelzcels (LDz), expects to carry a total of 55mn tons of cargos in 2008, which would be 5.5% more than in 2007.Mr Ugis Magonis, CEO of LDz, said Latvia needs to develop its ports to increase the volume of rail cargos. LDz plans to purchase around 1,000 semi-carriage freight cars in the near future. At present, the company has only 80% of the necessary number of freight cars, Mr Magonis said, Logistics Finland reports.
