DB Schenker, BLG - Car Transports on Rlroads

Two big logistics groups in Germany, DB Schenker and BLG intend to benefit from the promising market for car transports on railroads.

DB Schenker, a Deutsche Bahn subsidiary, intends to establish a European transportation network for the automotive industry. DB Schenker will even more combine logistic services offered to the car industry with rail transports whereas BLG plans to focus railroad services for car makers on new car transports, Logistics Finland reports.

To operate 75 trains, BLG, Bremen intends to spend EUR 170mn (US$ 244.97mn) on the purchase of approx. 1,300 new doubledeck coaches by 2014. BLG's railway company is a joint venture: BLG buys into CTL Car Transport Logistics, Mainz.
