Poland: PLN 7.5 Billion for Railways

The government wants to give PLN 7.5 billion for modernization and purchase of a rolling stock till the year 2020, - informed the minister of infrastructure Cezary Grabarczyk, - it is within taking over PKP Przewozy Regionalne by the local governments, - he added.

The money will come from the Railway Fund, Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment (POIiŚ), state budget and local operational programs.

Grabarczyk announced, that the Ministry wants to give to local governments not only PKP PR, but also railway stations.

Moreover, he said that PKP Intercity and PKP Cargo will be privatzed by the end of the next year, reports Railway Market-CEE Review.

LDz: Profit May Fall

This year the profit of Latvijas dzelzcels (LDz, Latvian railway) will not be so high as in 2007, when it amounted to $52.4 million (28.3 million lats) and the turnover was $485 million (262 million lats).
