Czech Republic: Ministry of Transport Plans New Railway Lines

08.09.2008 (13:57)

Czech Republic's Ministry of Transport wants, by 2016, to build new railway lines, on which trains could reach a speed of 360 km/h.

It would shorten the time of travel from Prague to the biggest Czech cities.

According to the Ministry, works on some parts of the project will start in Autumn this year.

The investment will cost billions of CZK, but, according to Czech journalists, it should bring profit.

České Drahy already ordered 20 Škoda 109E electric locomotives, which are currently able to run 200 km/h but, after the construction process, should be even faster, Railway Market-CEE Review reports.
