Estonian Rail Freight Volume Fell Two Times

According to Statistics Estonia, the rail freight volume decreased 2.4 times during the first six months of 2008 compared to the same period of 2007.

While in the first six months of 2007, 66 million tons of goods were transported on the railways, then in 2008 the same period, rail freight had decreased to 27 million tons.

In June 2008, 4.19 million tons of good were transported on the railway, in May the figures were 4.2 million tons.

2,632,000 passengers were served on the railway during the first six months of 2008, in June 446,000. In June 2007, the number of passengers amounted 482,000, Baltic Business News reports.
