Air France, Veolia Could Start Rail Links in 2012
21.07.2008 (14:56)
Air France-KLM Group could begin operating fast trains from Paris to other cities by 2012 or 2013 under a partnership with a Veolia Environnement SA unit, Bloomberg reports. The two companies' plan would rival rail links offered by Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer Francais, the state- controlled railway, the report said. Rail links between European countries will be liberalized from 2010 while links between cities within individual countries could happen in 2014, the report said.
Air France confirmed July 15 it's in talks with Veolia on a strategic partnership for European high-speed rail services. The company said these may replace some short-haul flights.
