Ceske Drahy May Raise Fares by up to 10%

26.06.2008 (12:13)

Ceske drahy (CD) reckons with up to a 10 percent increase in fares with the new timetable, CEO Petr Zaluda said.

He ascribes the planned hike mainly to the growing prices of oil and electricity, Railway Market-CEE Review reports.

"If oil prices grow by 30 percent, then of course fares may grow by 10 percent. If oil prices calm down, the price increase will rather correspond to inflation," he said.

Ceske drahy last raised its fares on June 15. The highest increase was for a special ticket called the kilometric bank (KMB) which most passengers use.

It is a ticket for 2,000 km of unlimited travel on Czech railways network.
