Latvia: Indicators of Transport in the 1st Quarter of 2008

In the 1st quarter of 2008 14.4 mln tons of freight were carried by rail, an increase of 18.6 % compared to 1st quarter of 2007, according to the Central Statistical Bureau.

Compared to 1st quarter of previous year, the volume of national freights carried by rail has grown by 14.7%, and in 1st quarter of 2008 it constituted 0.4 mln tons. In international transportation by rail 14.0 mln tons of freights were transported – 8.3% more compared to the 1st quarter of 2007. 79.8 % of the total international freight haulage was accounted for by transportation through ports, Railway Market-CEE Review reports.
