12.05.2008 (16:52)

ZPSV, one of the largest Czech makers of concrete products for the construction sector, raised sales by 20 percent year-on-year to around Kc1.39bn in 2007.

Profit amounted to CZK 111.3m, an increase of 13 percent from CZK 98.7m in 2006. The company expects similar results for this year, Railway Market-CEE Review reports.

Most of ZPSV's orders are supplies of concrete sleepers and bridge beams to railway and road construction projects, the company said.

ZPSV invested CZK 78.6m last year, an increase of more than CZK 14m year-on-year, mostly in repairs, expansion of its production halls and modernisation of machinery.

This year, the company wants to invest Kc100m, planning to finance one-quarter of the investment from a loan.

Sales abroad decreased by 45 percent against 2006 to CZK 70.4m last year.

The drop was due to fewer supplies to railway construction projects in Slovakia. The company also supplied its products to Poland, Germany, Estonia, Lithuania and Bulgaria.

ZPSV has seven plants in the Czech Republic and a subsidiary in Sofia. The Romanian unit, established in 2005, produces mainly railway sleepers. The company also controls construction firm OHL ZS.

ZPSV employed 726 people last year, a growth of 78 year-on-year.
