Derailed Freight Train Back on Track

12.05.2008 (12:33)

A nine-wagon freight train which derailed south of Whangarei, New Zealand at the weekend is now back on the tracks.

Investigations are underway into what caused the derailment in a tunnel near Maungaturoto in the early hours of Saturday.

Toll New Zealand spokeswoman Sue Foley says four of the nine wagons were carrying general freight and getting them back on the rails has been no easy feat.

She says getting them back on track inside a tunnel has been a slow process but all going smoothly the line will reopen at 8pm on Monday.
