Sweden: Monopoly on Rail Traffic to Be Abolished

08.05.2008 (16:54)

The Swedish Government is planning to abolish the monopoly that still exists on certain rail lines.

Also bus traffic will be deregulated; at present long distance coach lines are not allowed to compete with local buses, says Jan-Evert Rådhström, MP of right-wing party Moderaterna and deputy chairman of the Swedish Parliament's transport committee.

A committee under Jan Brandborn will present a proposal for the deregulation by 1 October 2008, logisticsturku.fi reports.
