06.05.2008 (11:48)
Some months ago, Polish operator PKP Regional Services (PKP Przewozy Regionalne, PKP PR) has obtained 11 modern trains. The cost was PLN 171 mln.Now this rolling stock has to undergo some alteration.
The passengers were happy to travel between Warsaw and Łódź by modern trains. Not for long. ED74 was projected and constructed by Polish company PESA Bydgoszcz. It has been running for a few days and it turned out that these trains are uncomfortable and need modernization. Passengers' complainings forced PKP PR to modernize them.
- There's a track modernization on Warsaw - Łódź line and the time of travelling is longer. That's why the passengers are complaining about uncomfotable seats. It's not our fault - says Michał Żurowski of PESA.
- The price proposed by PESA in tender was almost a half lower than foreign producers. We deicded to order further three vehicles - claims Łukasz Kurpiewski, PKP PR's spokesperson.
Two trains have already returned to the plants. Further four will leave it untile the end of this month. Seats inside the vehicles needs to be moved away form each other. It will reduce the number of seats by only 4.
