Throughput of Latvian Ports Increases

In January-August, 2007, 42.354 tons of cargoes (+3.9% or +1.596 mln tons year-on-year) were handled in Latvian ports.

According to Latvian Ministry of Communication, the volume of liquid bulk cargoes amounted to 17.765 mln tons (+8.5% year-on-year), oil products – to 14.823 mln tons (+2.1% y-o-y), crude oil – to 1.614 mln tons (+47.3% y-o-y). The volume of handled solid bulk cargoes amounted to 17.488 mln tons (-2.2% y-o-y), coal – to 9.352 mln tons (-10.8% y-o-y), chemical solid bulk – to 3.614 mln tons (+16.7% y-o-y).

Handled of general cargoes totalled 7.101 mln tons (+9.2% y-o-y), including 3.385 mln tons of timber (+6.5%), 1.465 mln tons of roll on/roll off cargoes (+4.1%), 1.4 mln tons of containerized cargoes (+16%).

Ventspill’s port throughput increased by 9.2% to 21.485 mln tons, the port of Riga’s throughput reduced by 2.1% to 17.26 mln tons and Liepaja port throughput reduced by 2.5% to 2.646 mln tons.

In 2006, the throughput of ten Latvian ports reduced by 0.9% to 59.497 mln tons.
