Saudi Arabia, Algerian, Iran, Armenia – you’ve probably heard the names of these countries in relation to OAO RZD’s (The Russian railways JSC) activities. The company is confidently breaking its borders to win tenders throughout the Middle East and the CIS (pp. 32–37). The last gains of RZD reflect not only the fact that Russian engineers and builders have profound and useful know-how, but also the trend towards internationalisation of railways, which they desperately lack.
